Due to the power crisis in South Africa, Standard Electrical have started a new division called Standard Energy. Standard Energy’s mandate is to help you, the consumer save energy and
money, as well ease pressure on the national grid.
Objectives
The corporate sector is responsible for a large percentage of the CO2 emissions currently effecting the environment. We at Standard Energy have a genuine concern for the environment. By raising awareness of the benefits of saving energy we can help reduce strain on the grid by reducing energy consumption, and help reduce the environmental impact from the development sector. Most importantly these retrofits are financially viable, with paybacks in most cases being below 3 years.Incentives
Reasons to reduce your energy emissions are less chance of load shedding, and Eskom is currently raising their prices by 31.4%, in some cases this is much higher, as much as 50%. We now know that a further 3 increases of 24.8%, 25.1% and 25.8% and been approved for the next 3 years, making retrofits the obvious answer as this only speeds up the payback on this investment.

- Positive feedback for you company from the public and stakeholders, as it shows good corporate citizenship and intention to be trading long term.
- Higher rentals can be charged for energy efficient buildings because the energy bills come down significantly.
- There will be more and more negative publicity for companies that don’t become green. Less potential tenants as a result of tenants wanting to be perceived as green.
Lightning
- By replacing old light fittings with more energy efficient lighting we can bring down both the kWH and maximum demand
- Adding motion detection allows us to maximise efficiency. By simply determining whether a room is in use or not the light can be automatically switched off when not in use
Air - Conditioning
- Adjusting air-conditioning slightly higher in summer & lower in winter to reduce demand on air-conditioner
- Adding motion detection sensors to the air-conditioning will allow massive savings for your company. If no one is in the room the consol will automatically switch off, and will need to be manually turned on a again once you enter the room
Online Metering
